The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Rt Hon James Purnell is scheduled to give a keynote address at the launch of HSE’s new strategy for improvement of health and safety record in the UK. He is to be joined on the panel by Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and Judith Hackitt CBE, Chair of HSE. The panel will be answering questions from the delegates.

The HSE has also been engaged in a research into people’s approach towards risks faced at workplaces. The results are due before the launch of the strategy, ‘Be Part of the Solution’, in June. The strategy suggests that for improving the record of health and safety, there is a need for all the stakeholders to operate together and create a balance between business competitiveness and safety of the workers.

Result of a long deliberation, the new strategy is scheduled to be launched on 3 June. It is aimed at improving safety of the UK workforce and urges employers to ensure that no mishaps occur because of lack of spending on safety measures.
