The latest addition to their area of operation is China, Shanghai in particular. The Blackstone Group believes that China’s economy offers many prospects for the private equity industry. Recent engagements in Shanghai by the Blackstone Group include the company’s purchase of a $160.7 billion building for their satellite office.

The Blackstone Group’s latest activity, however, is their acquisition of a shopping mall owned by the Shanghai Super Ocean Real Estate Development Co. The building was purchased for CNY4.5 billion (roughly $648.4 million), documented as the largest property sale in Shanghai for this year.

The Blackstone Group, one of United States most successful private equity companies, believes that the acquisition of the mall puts the company in a favorable position in exploring China’s private equity and investment banking potentials. The mall is strategically favorable – located at the heart of Shanghai’s business district.

Shanghai Super Ocean Real Estate Development Co., the previous owner of the mall, is planning to gain the Shanghai Tianchen Co. and inject its assets to complete a backdoor-listing process. Super Ocean failed to sell the mall during earlier attempts until the Blackstone Group decided to buy the mall.

The “Secret” had been buried so deeply in the book no one would ever read, see, or use the “Secret”.

A Brief History Lesson.

When you inherit someone’s “old” spreadsheet you need to analyze the formulas of the spreadsheet to see what they are doing. Even if the spreadsheet is one you created, you may have created the spreadsheet so long ago that you have forgotten what formulas you used.

Over the years Excel has improved its quality control features for analyzing formulas. But even today, 95% or more of all users research their spreadsheet formulas the old fashioned way. They click on a cell to see if it’s a formula. Then they study the formula. Then they might click on another cell to see if it’s a formula. And do the same thing over and over again.

Checking formulas with the mouse-click method is slow, tedious, and not thorough. It’s a bad process. But that’s the way over 95% of all Excel users research their spreadsheets. But there’s a much better way. It is the “Secret” to using Excel.

Life with Excel spreadsheets when using the “Secret”

After using the “Secret” the spreadsheet makes sense again. I can remember all of my formulas. Since I can’t use pictures in this article, read this next passage carefully:

The “Secret”

The “Secret” to using Excel is a keystroke command named CTRL gravé. This is pronounced “control gra-vay”. (Gra rhymes with the word pa, and vay rhymes with the word bay).

Because I can’t use pictures in this article, I need to write some steps for you. Don’t skim over these steps, do them. You’ll be glad you did. (It’s really quite simple, it’s a CTRL gravé.)

First, open up an Excel spreadsheet file that has formulas in it.

Second, using your Windows (non-Apple) keyboard, look to the lower left hand corner of the keyboard.

Third, hold down the CTRL key with any finger.

Fourth, locate the number 1 key towards the upper left hand corner of the keyboard.

Fifth, find the key one key left of the number 1. It has the symbols ` and ~. The first symbol, the ` is called a gravé.

Sixth, still holding down the CTRL key, tap the gravé key.

Seventh, see that all your formulas now have logical text. So instead of saying 150, a cell might display =a1+a2

CTRL gravé is a toggle. Do it once to see your formulas in the spreadsheet. Do it again to display the numbers again.

That’s what the “Secret” to Excel is like. Every time someone gives you a spreadsheet, just use the “Secret” on the spreadsheet to understand its logic. You’ll enjoy this technique so much you’ll start showing it to your friends.

- removing a program which leaves traces behind
- leftover entries from a hardware uninstall
- unused drivers on your system
- Spyware or similar programs that reappear every time you reboot

You can edit the Registry manually using a Windows program called Regedit, but this is really a job best left for hardened PC experts.

If the program doesn’t come with its own uninstaller, open Control Panel from the Start menu, and double-click Add/Remove Programs. Your PC will pause briefly while it gathers a list of all the programs you have installed.

Once it has done so, find the program you’d like to get rid of, click it and then select Change/Remove.

Be aware that some programs leave uninstalled traces all over the Windows Registry! Therefore, to improve PC performance after an uninstall, it’s essential to clean the Registry.

Improve PC Performance Tip #4:
RUN DISK CLEAN UP (Frequency = Monthly)

Windows’ Disk Clean Up is a fantastic built-in utility that automates regular maintenance tasks to improve PC performance, such as deleting Temporary Internet files, Setup log files, etc.

To start Disk Clean Up, double-click My Computer, right click on your ‘C:’ drive and then select Properties. Now click Disk Cleanup. Your computer will then spend a few moments analysing itself.

When it has completed the audit Windows will give you a list of areas where it has found files to cleanup. To clean an area, put a tick in the box next to it. To leave something intact, such as Temporary files, just remove the tick next to the item and click OK.

There is a simple cure – running the Windows program Disk Defragmenter. This gathers together the fragments of programs and puts them back in the right order.

To defragment your hard disk click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then Disk Defragment. When the program has loaded, click Defragment.

The process can take well over an hour. Because defragmenting your hard disk takes such a long time, you really don’t want to go through the process too often.

To clear Prefetch, choose Run from the Start menu, and enter Prefetch into the text box that appears. When you’ve done that, you’ll be confronted by a window filled with icons. Press Ctrl+A to select them all and press Delete.

The cache will quickly refill with links and files that Windows really needs. As a result, your system will feel more responsive and benefit from a PC performance speed up.
